Hello Finbarr, Are the Jsms contacts stored in a file that can be “moved” to another folder. I just started using Dropbox to synch personal data on all the PCs I use and if I could direct Jsms to get its contacts from a file I could put this file in the dropbox folder and Jsms would be synched across all the PCs I use. I’m thinking of this as an automatic process not me exporting and importing the contacts file…?

      Hi Michael,

The way I used to manage this was I always had my contacts sync’d with Google Gmail. Then every week or so I would run the JSMS import from GMail to keep everything in sync. I know it’s not the perfect solution, but it works well.

These days I use a Mac and this is all done automatically at every launch.

The phonebook itself is stored in the Java preferences of the machine. It’s not written to any file as far as I know, so using dropbox isn’t possible I’m afraid. (good idea though, i’m a heavy Dropbox user myself)

      Cheers,
      Finbarr

Another (imperfect) idea might be to export your contacts to a file in a dropbox folder that is shared between your PCs. Then, on any PC when you go to update the phonebook, you would first make sure to import the file from your dropbox folder, make your changes and then export the data to the same file.

That way, the file in the dropbox folder is ALWAYS up-to-date with your latest contact information and you can quickly and easily update the contacts in any instance of Jelly SMS that has an out-of-date phone book…

In fact I must start doing that myself! :-)

    Dropbox does rock btw…

And they’re telling me that they are working on a client for Android… That will be sweet. Finbarr, do you use the iPhone client? Is it any good?
